i carry your heart with me

"A dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world." - Oscar Wilde Photobucket Photobucket

I’ve managed to pack the bathroom except essentials, pack the kitchen except for food for the next week and eating utensils, the living room closet, and most of the bedroom.

I just have to finish up the miscellaneous things and go through the giant pile of clothes to sort keep/donate, and bag up all the dirty clothes.

Should be done by the end of the week except for furniture. Set a transfer for my utilities for the 1st, forward all my mail, contact everyone for change of address, and clean to the smallest nook and cranny next week.

Goodbye 500 sq feet, hello 1100 2bdrm with a backyard and patio.

I’ll miss living a two minute walk from 4th Ave and 5 minutes from downtown. I’ll miss living next door to my rad cousins. But thanks to Dave, I have a stupid affordable place that’s twice as big. And no fuss with my zoo.

Thank you 2nd Ave house for being my fresh start. You were tiny. You were falling apart. But you were my first rental on my own in my entire life.

If anyone you know needs a cool place to live in Tucson that is cheap and close to everything, I’m vacating a pretty sweet spot.

I remember crying over you and I don’t mean a couple of tears and I’m blue. I’m talking about collapsing and screaming at the moon.

People need to realize the significance of this post, because when I reblogged it it was just blank so I think some people may not understand what this is trying to say

Adopting an animal (or buying from someone close to you who has recently had puppies, kittens, etc) is not like simply going to the store and buying a toy. You do not just get to throw it away once you are done with it and it stops being cute in your eyes

This is a real living thing that has emotions, needs, and wants, not something to be thrown away when YOU are done after YOU entered at commitment to raise and care for this animal.

What’s just as bad as dumping the animal off just anywhere you want, whether it be on the side of the road or in a shelter, is that a lot of these animals end up dying after that. Animals are NOT always adopted and strays are not always picked up. Animals can get put down, run over, tortured, and a list of other things

People should really think about what they are responsible for before they bring an animal into their life

Not to mention that that animal loves you, you are his world, and when you drop him off at the shelter - or worse, in the street - you are abandoning him. He doesn’t know what he did wrong, he thinks you’ll come back, maybe you just dropped him off for a bit and you’ll come back to him.
Not only did you make a commitment, but that animal loves you and throwing them away isn’t just breaking that commitment, it’s throwing away someone who doesn’t understand why you don’t love him anymore and where you went.

This is so important. Animals are NOT toys you just can’t return them because you got bored. Think first before you buy a cute little puppy for your stupid girlfriend or sister or whatever. Okay. This just make me so mad that I can’t keep talking about it. Seriously you have no heart if you do this. Seriously

this kills me inside

My parents didn’t even grasp this concept. They would constantly just buy or adopt cats, and then after they’d mature, give them back or send them to shelters. My PARENTS. Full grown ADULTS. I’m only 21 and I have been called many things in my life, but I have NEVER been called a bad pet-owner.

You are taking that animal’s life and putting the fate of it IN THE PALM OF YOUR HANDS when you ACCEPT THE RESPONSIBILITY AND WORK THAT GOES INTO CARING FOR THEM. In return they love you and are there for you. They’re going to be your companion for the rest of THEIR LIFE. They know nothing of the world and they sure as hell don’t know you’re going to stop loving them once they reach a certain size. I need to stop because I’m getting so pissed. I was just at a shelter yesterday visiting all these animals because I was interested in volunteering—and I just cried on and off because they were all so fucking precious and they all deserved the best life they could possibly get.

They may only be there for a part of your life, but to them, you’re their whole life. Remember that.

This goes for more than just dogs and cats, remember.

People adopt ferrets because they think they’re cute, and then they realize how much work they are and they just turn them loose because “a ferret is basically a weasel and weasels are wild animals, right?” Those ferrets will DIE. They cannot live on their own. And how often do you think an animal like that gets adopted even if they make it to a shelter?

And all those bunnies and chicks you buy at easter are real damn cute up until the time that they’re not and you decide you don’t want them anymore.

Even fish are capable of feeling pain, and I’ve heard of plenty of families just flushing or killing living fish because their kid doesn’t want to take care of it anymore. Or they just let it slowly die in a filthy tank, literally burning to death in ammonia.

Don’t even get started on how many people don’t realize some birds can live for an entire human lifespan. Or how many of the cute little ones can’t survive being turned loose into the world.

If you can’t own and care for a pet for its entire lifespan and you aren’t in a position where you can guarantee being able to rehome it safely and happily, you don’t deserve to own an animal at all.

Any animal.

I found out the hard way that HERMIT CRABS are often killed way before their time.

Don’t trust those shallow little terraria with cute hermit crab images on them

You need a 10-gal tank and good, deep substrate for even just one hermit crab

Varied diet, lots of things to climb, salt AND fresh water dishes, no chlorinated water ever ever ever

Sometimes they dig down and don’t come out for weeks because they’re molting and if you dig them up you’ll kill them

Sometimes they die while molting anyway and it’s nobody’s fault

But you better be fucking ready for a commitment because the little cuties can live for up to 30 years and can get to be the size of a softball.

I know this probably sounds really inconsequential compared to larger animals like dogs or cats or more popular animals like fish and parrots, but

Poor hermit crabs :(
